The STARband from Orthomerica is a custom cranial remolding orthosis used to treat positional plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, and other head shape deformities in infants 3-18 months of age. Orthomerica's STARband was the first FDA approved cranial orthosis available to orthotists for use in their own practices. Thousands of infants have been successfully treated with the STARband cranial remolding orthosis since its introduction. The Cranial Remolding Center offers its patients unprecedented support and expertise with our staff of skilled technicians and orthotists.

  • STARbands can be fabricated from a positive modified cast, unmodified cast, or a scan of the infant's head using the STARscanner.
  • Turnaround time for fabrication is only 5-7 days.
  • The STARband provides total contact over the prominent areas of the skull and leaves a void over the fattened areas to facilitate more normal skull symmetry.
  • Treatment generally takes 3-4 months, but varies depending on the patient's age and severity of cranial asymmetry.
  • Clinical consultation is available through The Cranial Remolding Center's staff of ABC certified orthotists.
  • STARband literature is available for referring physicians, patient families, and caregivers.

The STARscanner laser data acquisition system, from Orthomerica, allows O&P practitioners to document and compare infant head shape data before, during, and after orthotic treatment of positional plagiocephaly. Scans replace the traditional casting process and take only 1.5 seconds. Treatment progress can be evaluated and documented with printed reports for referring physicians, research studies, insurance companies, and caregivers.
